PDE Enzyme Group

Phosphodiesterase Enzyme Group

A phosphodiesterase (PDE) is an enzyme that breaks a phosphodiester bond. Usually, phosphodiesterase refers to cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases, which have great clinical significance and are described below.

PDEs have found significance for many neurological disorders, normally neurodegeneration-related, such as schizophrenia and Alzheimer's. PDEs have very general interactions, with neurological and physiological interactions occuring differently on the many subtypes.
